Set in peaceful countryside yet under an hour’s drive from North Devon’s beaches and halfway between Exmoor and Dartmoor, The Barton Granary is perfect for an enjoyable and relaxing holiday.
This Grade II listed former granary (built in approximately 1830) is at the top of the farm with views towards the village and across fields.
We’ve maintained much of the original character of the building and have retained the horse engine (used for moving grain) as a striking feature in the sitting room. We’ve also retained original beams and stone walls wherever possible throughout the building.
The huge sitting room features a wood burner, open double-height beamed ceiling (incorporating a whole elm tree), large glass doors to a sheltered patio and a separate gallery sitting area, which makes a quiet place to relax. There is a large well-equipped kitchen/diner and separate small playroom/sitting room as well as a useful utility room. Upstairs, the 2 double and 2 twin bedrooms also have many original features.
There is a small heated indoor swimming pool a short walk away, shared with us and guests at our second cottage, Brimbles. The pool is available daily from 10 am to 7 pm.
